House flag, Belfast Steam Ship Co. Ltd

The house flag of the Belfast Steam Ship Co. Ltd, Belfast. A red pennant bearing a white disc. The flag is made of a wool and synthetic fibre bunting. It has a cotton hoist and is machine sewn. A rope and toggle is attached.

The Belfast Steam Ship Co. Ltd was registered on 31 January 1852 to carry passengers between Belfast and Liverpool. In 1859, it took over its rival the Cork Steamship Company and in 1866, the Londonderry Steamboat Company. The Belfast Steamship Company was converted to a limited liability company in 1872. It was absorbed into P&O Ferries (Irish Sea Services) in 1975.
