The paddle steamer Paris
The paddle steamer, Paris, is depicted in port broadside view in this oil painting. Her name is visible on her bow and on the flag flying at her stern. She is under full power in a rather choppy sea. A three-masted sailing vessel, with only her lower sails hoisted, can be seen in the middle distance, travelling in the opposite direction. Several other vessels are just visible on the far horizon.
The Paris was a passenger ferry for the London, Brighton & South Coast Railway Company, based at Newhaven.
