The barque Pathfinder
A ship’s portrait in oil of the three-masted barque Pathfinder shown starboard broadside-on, on a port tack under full sail. This is one of a pair of paintings of the Pathfinder in the China Seas. The other one (BHC3537) depicts the same ship, also starboard broadside-on, but on a starboard tack. They were painted by a Chinese artist.
There were several barques of this name during the 19th century, but this may depict the Pathfinder owned by Liverpool merchant Evans, who ran her to Moulmein and the Far East in 1858.
