Capture of the USS President, 15 January 1814
Oil painting attributed to Thomas Buttersworth. It may be the original from which the second of a pair of prints was engraved, showing the aftermath of the action, and which is more specific in calling the view 'the Morning after the Action with the American United States Frigate President, Jany 16th 1814': see PAH8154. It shows the 'President' at centre flying British colours over American at the stern, with a British boat putting men aboard: at centre right is the 'Endymion', partly dismasted, which effected the capture.
