The ship 'Candahar'
Ship portrait. Oil painting. This full-rigged ship is the 'Candahar', built by Harland & Wolff of Belfast in 1866 for Thomand and John Brocklebank of Liverpool. Brocklebanks are believed to have been unique in wearing their house-flag at the fore rather than the main: this was a bi-colour of white and blue, with white at the hoist, as shown here. Michale Charles, who kindly supplied this identification, also suggests this is in fact a Chinese-school painting. [PvdM 2/21]
