Batteries flottantes de 120 chx au mouillage. No.31

A panorama of ships, specially selected for the Russian Imperial yacht Tsarvna. Beginning from left, the St. Vincent is depicted bow-on, followed by a small group of rowing boats with crew surrounding the Reine Hortense with the Corse behind her. Behind a large area of smoke from cannon-fire is the Algiers, her masts only discernible. Prominently in the foreground is the Hannibal, shown starboard-bow, with her crew standing on deck and the yards, saluting with raised hats. To her right is the steamer Bull-dog.

Inscribed in French: ‘Embarkation of French Army corps on the English Squadron. The Emperor Napoleon leaving the yacht La Reine Hortense to return on board the Hannibal, the English Admiral’s flagship. The Calais roadstead 14 July 1854.’

The names of the ships are inscribed below the image relative to their position in the scene.
From left to right: ‘Le St Vincent, Vaisseau à voiles_120 Canons’, ‘Le Reine Hortense, Yacht de S. M. L’Impératrice à helice’, ‘Le Corse, Aviso Francaise a helice’, ‘L’Algiers, Vaisseau à helice_91 Canons’, ‘L’Hannibal, Vaisseau Amiral à helice_91 Canons. Commodore Grey’, ‘Le Bull-dog, Corvette Anglaise à vapeur’.
