Official ship's badge of HMS Valhalla
Ship's badge of HMS 'Valhalla' 1917. It is an official design, a shield shape with a gold rope twist border, a naval crown above. 'VALHALLA' is inscribed in the name tablet. The badge depicts a gold laurel wreath surrounding a silver star. The pattern was approved in February 1923. The badge is made of copper alloy, painted and drilled for attachment. The star represents the celestial hall of Northern myth, where heroes (represented by the wreath) spend eternity in feasting. HMS 'Valhalla' was a flotilla leader destroyer, launched by Laird in 1917 and sold in 1931.
