A full-length portrait of Samuel Hood (1762–1814) in captain’s (over three years) full-dress uniform, 1795–1812, with the ribbon and star of the Order of the Bath and his empty right sleeve pinned to his waist, resting his left hand on an anchor, a view of ships in the distance. Lettered beneath the image with the title, ‘Sir Samuel Hood, K.B. &c. &c.’. Also lettered with a dedication to the sitter’s wife and the publication details: ‘Painted by I. Hoppner R.A. / Engraved by G. Clint. / To The Honble Lady Hood this Portrait is with permission respectfully dedicated by her Ladyship’s most obedient and humble Servt. Samuel W. Reynolds. / London Published May 2d. 1808 by S. W.
