To the Captains, Officers & Crews, of His Majesty's Ships Pomone...Unite...& Scout Brig... Representing the Squadron under...Captn Barrie, standing out of Sagone Bay, after having destroyed the Enemy ships & Batteries, on the 1st May 1811...
A view of the British squadron victorious over the French squadron at Sagone Bay. The ship in the centre foreground probably represents the ‘Pomone’. This change of her position in relation to that position of ‘Unité’ as shown in the earlier plates is perhaps surprising, but the artist’s intention may have been to please Captain Barrie, commander of ‘Pomone’. ‘Unité’ is identified as the ship on the right by her figurehead, which is similar to that on the draught showing her lines taken off in 1798. Therefore, ‘Scout’ is the ship on the left. The French ships are shown burning in the background. Coloured aquatint. Plate 3, proof with letters.
