A View of the Commercial Docks at Rotherhithe...
Print. These docks were built on the south side of the Thames at Rotherhithe. They were established at the terminus of the Surrey Canal. In 1864, the various docks in this area merged to become the Surrey Commercial Docks. The docks at Rotherhithe were employed mainly in receiving the trade from America and North Europe (timber, hemp, corn, iron, tar etc). The docks closed in 1970.
