Portrait of the 'Constant Reformation'
This is a portrait of the ‘Constant Reformation’ viewed from the port quarter.
There is a comparable drawing in the Boymans Museum, Rotterdam (see MB1866/ T 400) which probably shows one of Prince Rupert’s ships at Hellevoetusluis in 1648-49. The drawing is a faint offset, rubbed on the back and worked up in considerable detail and with pencil and heavy wash. A large correction has been made by the luff of the ship in order to show the whole number of guns on the gundeck.
