This ship portrait is viewed from slightly below the starboard beam.
This in an accurate but somewhat untidy pencil which appears to have been put in without the usual help of an offset. It is approximately dated by the subject; the two pieces of paper it is drawn on are papers van de Velde used in 1664 and 1666.
