View of the harbour of Corfu, 1483

Text in Latin on reverse.; No.3. Breydenbach (c.1442-97) was a a politician in the German Electorate of Mainz.. In 1486 (1st ed.) he published in Mainz an account in Latin of a journey he had made to the Holy Land three years earlier under the title 'Peregrinatio in Terram Sanctem'. It was illustrated with fine woodblock prints - though not as wholly realistic record - by Erhard Reuwich but is nonethless notable both for their early use and especially images of the large Venetian merchant galleys that carried pilgrims, including Breydenbach, from there and intermediate ports on the way, as well as other shipping.
