The West Dining-Hall (Greenwich Hospital)
Looking west in the undercroft under the Painted Hall, toward the kitchens. Pensioners ate in the undercrofts from the time that Thornhill began to decorate the Painted Hall in 1707-08. It only became a general refectory for the Royal Naval College in 1939. From the Illustrated London News, 25 March 1865, p. 280; for further details see PAI8788.
