Unofficial gun tompion for HMS Lion
Gun tompion HMS 'Lion' 1910. It is cast with the unofficial ship's badge which depicts a lion standing on a rock facing 3/4 to the viewers right. The animal is shown in a naturalistic rather than a heraldic manner. With the motto above: 'CONCORDAT NOMINE FACTA' (the facts agree with the name.) The official badge showing a rampant lion was introduce in 1919.
