Bell
Bell. Broad arrow on one side, lettering round upper part 'VICTVALING OFFISE AT DOVER 1705'. Remains of cannons - rectangular sections without tapering bases. Top moulding wire of two above the inscription is right on the tangent point at the shoulder. Iron, cast-in crown staple (very corroded). The later iron clapper hits the bell too low. The Crown victualling office at Dover was in the medieval Maison Dieu from the 16th century until 1830: in 1834 it was sold to the town and, with later additions, became the town hall..
