Ship's bell
Ship's bell. Inscription: 'HMS INDOMITABLE 1941'. The bell has an 18 7/8 inch mouth diameter, and is incised: 'H.M.S. INDOMITABLE 1941' on the waist and painted red. Wide moulding wires arranged from crown 2, 2-2, 3-2. The argent has six angular canons with tapered bases. The argent has a rectangular hole. It has a large cat-in crown staple. Lipt to shoulder at tangent 14 inches. Shoulder circumference 30 3/4 inches. Soundbow 1 inch thick. It is likely that this bell was a shipyard casting, as no bellfounder in 1941 would have used a cast-in staple and maded a bell so thin.
