Ship's bell

Bell of British barque 'Lemuella' 1853. Bronze bell attached to iron bracket. Iron clapper in situ. Moulding wires on soundbow. No canons above crown. Central bolt through hole in crown to wrought iron lever and head stock. Clapper top closed over independant staple, perhaps later than the bell. Incised on front 'LEMUELLA 1853'. On reverse: 'Denna Gudande kloka ãr skãnkt till F.B.K. af dess kårchefs suppleant handlanden hãrstandes Konrad Lundman den 15 Oktober 1888 e.k.f. Wi må tacka för gåfran!!!' 'Lemuella' was built in 1854 in Sunderland and owned by two London companies. She was wrecked in the Aland Islands in 1866/67.
