Ship's bell
Ship's bell. Inscription: 'HMS SWIFTSURE'. The bell has a handbell type argent, with a large circular section cast-in crown staple. The clapper is missing. There are strickle marks on the inside of soundbow, which suggests a solid pattern was not used. The non-standard Admiralty design of this bell suggests that it was cast for the 'Swiftsure' built around 1870 at Palmer's Yard, Jarrow. 17 1/8 inch diameter. Soundbow 1 and 11/16 inch.
