Jane Owen
Small three-quarter length polychrome female figurehead from the wooden schooner 'Jane Owen'. This pretty little figure is in a blue evening dress of a style about 1850–55, with a low-cut top that conceals the absence of arms on the figure and bears a red rose at the breast. It comes from a small Welsh schooner and may be a portrait figurehead. The vessel was on her way to Devonport in 1889 with a cargo of slates, when she was wrecked on the Queen’s Ledge, Isles of Scilly. She was later brought onto the beach by the farm buildings on Tresco to be broken up.
