Official boat badge of HMS Maidstone
The boat badge of HMS 'Maidstone' 1912 or possibly the 1937 vessel. An official pattern approved in November 1919. On a field red, a lion passant gold upon wavelets silver and blue. The design is loosely based on the arms of the town. The badge is diamond-shaped with a gold rope twist border representing an auxiliary. It is made of cast brass, painted and drilled at the corners. 'MAIDSTONE' is inscribed on the reverse. HMS 'Maidstone' was a submarine depot ship built by Scotts, Greenock and launched in 1912, she was sold for scrapping in 1929. Her first Captain Frank Brandt, was lost in HMS Monmouth' at the battle of Coronel.
