Wine glass
Wine glass with a conical bowl, plain stem and conical foot. It is wheel engraved with a depiction of the death of Nelson and inscribed 'LORD NELSON WOUNDED OCT 21ST 1805'. The glass itself may date to as early as the 1780s and the image is derived from Benjamin West's view of Nelson mortally wounded in 'Victory's' cockpit at Trafalgar, engraved in Clarke and McArthur's 'Life of Nelson' (1809). The image on the glass was probably done much later, however, since its decoration is as a pair with GGG0017 which was probably engraved between the 1870s and the early 20th century.
