Official boat badge of HMS Seamew
The boat badge of HMS 'Seamew' 1928. An official design, the pattern approved in March 1927. On a field blue, a seagull proper, over two wavelets green and gold. Seamew is another name for the common gull. The badge is diamond-shaped with a gold rope twist border representing an auxiliary. It is made of cast brass, painted and drilled at the corners. 'SEAMEW' is inscribed on the reverse. HMS 'Seamew' was a Tern-class river gunboat. She was built by Yarrow Shipbuilders, Scotstoun and launched in 1928. She was deployed on the West River (Xi Jiang) China, to protect British trade and resident British Nationals. She was scrapped in 1947 at Basra having been redeployed to the Persian Gulf.
