Rummer
Rummer with a bucket bowl, a stem with a bladed knop and a plain conical foot. It is wheel-engraved with a merchant brig being towed by the paddle steamer with the name 'PHOENIX' on the paddle wheel. On the other side, the monogram 'WMH' within a spotted border with an outer wreath of flowers tied with a ribbon, a basket of fruit above. The engraving dates from circa 1830, the glass is earlier.
NB: The earliest paddle steamer named Phoenix was undocked at Chatham in 1832.
