Official boat badge of HMS Ceres
The boat badge of HMS 'Ceres' 1917. Official design, the pattern approved in 1920. The pentagonal shape with a gold rope twist border represents a cruiser. The design depicts two ears of barley and three ears of wheat. It refers to Ceres as goddess of harvest. The badge is cast brass, painted and drilled at the corners. HMS 'Ceres' was a C-class cruiser, launched at Clydebank 24 March 1917 and commissioned on 1 June the same year. She had a long and active career, particularly during the Second World War. Initially based at Singapore, she was involved in operations aganist Italian possessions in the Horn of Africa, Indian Ocean convoys and convoys between South Africa and the United Kingdom. In the latter part of the war ship was involved in the invasion of Normandy. She was sold in 1946 for breaking up.
