Official boat badge of HMS Amphion
The official boat badge of HMS 'Amphion' 1934. It depicts a green dragon's head with a red tongue issuing from a gold naval crown on a white field. 'AMPHION' is inscribed on the reverse. The badge is a pentagonal shape representing a cruiser. The badge is made of cast brass, painted and drilled at the corners. 'AMPHION' is inscribed on the reverse. The design derives from part of the arms of Sir Thomas Masterman Hardy who commanded 'Amphion' in 1803. HMS 'Amphion' was a cruiser, transferred to the Royal Australian Navy in 1939 and renamed HMAS 'Perth'. At the beginning of the Second World War she was deployed to the Mediterranean where she took part in the Battle of Matapan. She was sunk in the Battle of Sunda Strait, while confronting a Japanese invasion force south of Java in 1942.
