The boat badge of HMS 'York' 1928. The official design approved in January 1927. On a blue field, a white rose, the barbs green, the seeds and rays gold. The design taken from the badge of the House of York. The badge is a pentagonal shape with a gold rope twist border representing a cruiser. It is made of cast brass, painted and drilled at the corners. 'YORK' is inscribed on the reverse. 'York' was a heavy cruiser, launched in 1928. During the early part of the Second World War she escorted Atlantic convoys and took part in the Norwegian campaign. She was then deployed to the Mediterranean. During May 1941, she was damaged during an attack by Italian motorboats. She was run aground and then wrecked beyond repair after a German air attack. She was salvaged and broken up in 1952.
