Terrestrial miniature globe
Terrestrial miniature globe. Geographical details on the sphere show that lands and oceans are not named. This is a so-called 'Stummer Globus' or silent globe. The tracks of Cook's second and third voyages are indicated with their dates. The land masses are all surrounded by a narrow border of coastal 'contour lines' which are simply decorative in function. For full details about the cartography and construction of this globe please refer to the related publication.
