Official boat badge of HMS Windsor
The boat badge of HMS 'Windsor' 1918. The official design submitted in November 1919. Shield shape. Pattern submitted in November 1919. On a red field, a castle silver surmounted by a Royal Crown, gold. The badge is shield-shaped with a gold rope twist border representing an destroyer. It is made of cast brass, painted and drilled at the corners. 'WINDSOR' is inscribed on the reverse. HMS 'Windsor' was a V/W-class destroyer built by Scott's of Greenock and launched in 1918. She was present at the surrender of the High Seas Fleet. During the early years of the Second World War she was deployed on convoy defence in the Western Approaches. She took part in the Dunkirk evacuation. By the end of 1940 she was being used for convoy defence and patrol in the North Sea and in subsequent years on Russian convoys. During 1944, she escorted military convoys during the Normandy landings. She was broken up in 1949.
