Islamic globe

Islamic globe. Astronomical details on the sphere show that only constellations are drawn. The zodiacal figures are not labelled. Of the non-zodiacal figures, a total of 27 labels can be deciphered.

This is a decorative piece, with different iconography to that usually seen on Islamic celestial globes. Some of the constellations are misplaced; Cassiopeia seems to appear twice - once correctly labelled but in the wrong position and once in the right position, but with a nonsensical inscription. The meridian ring and the stand are missing. For full details about the cartography and construction of this globe please refer to the related publication.
