Terrestrial collapsible globe
Terrestrial collapsible globe. Geographical details on the sphere show the location of the 'Antipodes of Greenwich'. In the south polar region there are four labels, including those for 'Enderby Land', 'Peter I.' and 'Alexander I'. A total of six oceans are named.
On the inside of the lid of the box there are various advertisements for products made by Betts, including, for example, outline maps, projectional maps and key maps. For later collapsible globes using Betts' patent, see Philip & Son, GLB0232.
The overall measurement is for the globe when it is collapsed inside its box. For full details about the cartography and construction of this globe please refer to the related publication.
