Terrestrial table globe
Terrestrial table globe. It forms a pair with the celestial globe Johnston, GLB0252. Geographical details on the sphere are the same as Johnston GLB0067, but there are a few differences. For instance, the names of the 'SOUTH PACIFIC OCEAN' and 'ANTARCTIC OCEAN' have been added. The name 'Sofala' in Africa is changed into Mozambique. The name of the steam packet route from Suez to Bombay, not the route itself, is removed, and 'South Victoria 1841' is changed into 'South Victoria Land'. On GLB0067 'Zanzibar l' is not underlined in red but on GLB0251 it is.
As with GLB0067, 'Greeley Fiord' is indicated north of Greenland. In the south polar area there are labels for nine regions, including, for example, 'Supposed Southern continent', 'Emp. Peter I' and 'Graham Island'. Telegraph lines in the oceans are marked and labelled, which connect Europe with North America and India with Malaya/China, and in Australia there is a line marked and labelled. A total of seven oceans are named. For full details about the cartography and construction of this globe please refer to the related publication.
