Terrestrial globe gores

Terrestrial globe gores. Geographical details on the gores show the location of the 'Antipodes of Greenwich'. In the north polar region the names of Melville and Parry are recorded. In the south polar region there are labels for 'Enderbys L.d; I. of Peter Alexander' and 'Ballany I. 1839'. A total of five oceans are named.

These gores were printed using Woodward's copper plate, GLB0185. The plate was also used to print GLB0264 and GLB0271. For full details about the cartography and construction of these gores please refer to the related publication, Globes at Greenwich.
