Duncan
A half-length portrait of Adam Duncan (1731–1804) in admiral’s full-dress uniform, 1795–1812, with a flag officer’s gold medal for the Battle of Camperdown and the sash and star of the Russian Imperial Order of Saint Alexander Nevsky. Lettered beneath the image with a facsimile of the sitter’s signature. This print was published as an illustration in Joseph Allen, ‘Battles of the British Navy from A.D. 1000 to 1840’ (London: A. H. Baily & Co., 1842), volume 1, opposite page 432. The portrait is after John Hoppner’s oil painting of 1798 – either the full-length version in Forfar Town and Country Hall or the three-quarter-length version in the Guildhall Art Gallery.
