Terrestrial globe gores. Geographical details on the gores include a table with symbols for railways, submarine telegraph cables, international date line, warm currents and cold currents. In the south polar region the 'Magnetic Pole' is indicated by a cross. Around the North Pole, there are labels for 'Nansen 1895', 'Cagni 1900' and 'Peary 90° / 6th April 1909'. Around the South Pole there are labels for 'Amundsen 90° / 14th. December 1911' and 'Scott 90° / 18th. Jan 1912'. A total of eight oceans are named. The overall measurements are for each of the three sheets bearing two sets of half gores each. Cartouche text reads: ’18 inch terrestrial globe by W & A. K. Johnston Limited.
