Celestial globe gores
Celestial globe gores. They form a set with Kelvin & Hughes Limited ZBA0327. Astronomical details on the gores are the same as Kelvin & Hughes Limited ZBA0092. Only stars are depicted; neither constellation figures nor contours are drawn. Above the title cartouche there is a magnitude table in a rectangular cartouche. The stars are marked by their Bayer notation.
Star names are printed in capital letters and are provided with a number, sometimes between brackets, which apparently refers to a list of stars. A total of 83 stars are named. Cartouche text reads: ‘Printed by George Philip & Son Ltd. Star Globe, Kelvin Hughes Ltd, Epoch 1975’. For full details about the cartography and construction of these gores please refer to the related publication, Globes at Greenwich.
