Terrestrial globe gores
Terrestrial globe gores. They form a set with George Philip & Son ZBA0328. Geographical details on the gores show a cartouche containing a colour scheme for geographical contour lines and symbols for shipping routes and railways. The north magnetic pole is marked, and the main ocean currents are labelled. In the north polar region is the label 'Peary 1909'. In the south polar region there are labels for 'Amundsen Dec. 14. 1911', 'Scott Jan. 18. 1912' and 'Byrd 1929'. A total of eight oceans are named. The overall measurements are for each of the 12 gores. Cartouche text reads: 'Philips’ 12 inch terrestrial globe, printed in Great Britain by George Philip & Son Ltd, London © 1966’.
