Turkish Crimea Medal 1855
Turkish Crimea Medal presented to boatswain Benjamin Bradshaw (1819-1908).
Obverse: A field gun with a map of the Crimea upon it, a mortar, anchor &c, and the four flags of the allies behind. Exergue: 'LA CRIMEA 1855'.
Reverse: The sultan's cypher and inscription within a laurel wreath tied with a bow. Inscription: 'Crimea 1271' (Arabic date). Issued by the Sultan of Turkey to British, French and Sardinian troops who had taken part in the Crimean War. Owing to the wreck of the ship carrying the British medals, the other two types were sometimes issued to British troops in their place. This is the Sardinian type.
