Corridor in First Class accommodation on the 'Saxonia' (1900)

Interior of the passenger/cargo liner 'Saxonia' (1900) showing a corridor to the First Class staterooms on the port side of the Bridge Deck; a view looking aft, with stairs down to the Shelter Deck in the middle distance.

An oil lamp is shown on the right side of the image. The public rooms of the ship were lighted throughout by electricity, but oil lamps were placed in passages and other important places in case power was lost during an emergency.
