One of a series of 24 posters commissioned from this distinguished war artist to show the peoples and cultures of the Empire. The artist, whose full name seems to have been Fitzgerald Spencer Pryse, was born in France in 1880.He was educated at Eaton and at various London Art Schools. He was included in the Venice exhibition, 1907. Served with distinction in the First World War, winning the MC and the Croix de Guerre. He illustrated the Pageant of Empire Souvenir of the British Empire Exhibition, 1924, visited Nigeria and the Gold Coast for the Empire Marketing Board, 1928, and was patronised by King George V. Author of 'Through the Lines to Abd El Karim's stronghold in the Riffs'. There are works by him in the Victoria and Albert Museum, the British Museum, the Tate Gallery, and in Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham galleries.
