Mug
A creamware mug with a plain loop handle, transfer-printed in black with a scene of impressment on Tower Hill. A variation of the etching 'Manning the Navy' by Barlow, after Collings, 1790 with fewer figures (see PAD4731 and PAD4732). The Tower of London is seen in the background. The scene is in a large oval border opposite the handle, with a laurel spray below and the inscription 'THE PRESS GANG'.
