1914-15 Star
Awarded to Alfred Broughton, Chief Stoker, RN. A uniface star of four points, the upper covered by a crown, with two crossed swords entwined by a short scroll. Inscription: '1914-15.' An oak garland superimposed upon the whole. Inscription: 'G'. with a 'V' within it. Inscription on reverse: '170235, A.E. BROUGHTON, CH.STO., R.N.' Fitted with a ring and red, white and blue watered-silk ribbon.
Chief Stoker Alfred Edward Broughton (1873-1934) entered the Royal Navy aged 19 on 21 November 1892 and was discharged in February 1919. He saw active service in HMS 'Hyacinth' blockading the coast of Somaliland and on anti-pirate duty in the Persian Gulf 1909-1910 in HMS 'Hyacinth'. He married Margaret Edith Deering in 1908.
