Special Constabulary Long Service Medal

Awarded to Captain Albert Edward Dossett MC. Obverse: Head of George V (left). Legend: 'GEORGIVS V BRITT : OMN : REX ET IND : IMP:"'Reverse: Within an olive wreath, the inscription: 'FOR FAITHFUL SERVICE IN THE SPECIAL CONSTABULARY'. Inscribed on edge: 'ALBERT DOSSETT'. Suspended from a red ribbon with a black stripe bordered with white along each edge. Mounted on a bar with two others.

Captain Albert Edward Dossett (1896-1972) Dossett entered the Royal Navy at the age of eighteen in 1915 and transferred to the Royal Naval Division. Whilst serving as a Sub-Lieutenant he was wounded at the Battle of the Somme and awarded the Military Cross. The citation in the ‘London Gazette’, 1916 reads as follows: ‘For conspicuous gallantry in action. Although severely wounded, he continued to lead and encourage his men, displaying great courage and determination’. When recovered he was made a King’s Messenger and in October 1917 he transferred to the Indian Army. He was invalided home to Britain in 1923.
