1914-15 Star
Awarded to Ernest Benjamin Ellis, Stoker I. A uniface star of four points, the upper covered by a crown, with two crossed swords entwined by a short scroll. Inscription: '1914-15.'. An oak garland superimposed upon the whole. Inscription: 'G'. with a 'V' within it. Inscribed on reverse: 'K28237. E.B. ELLIS. STO. 2., R.N.' Fitted with a ring and red, white and blue watered-silk ribbon. Mounted on a bar with two others.
Ernest Benjamin Ellis (1897-1918) was the son of a railway worker. He entered the Royal Navy on 27 April 1915 and died in the loss of destroyer HMS 'Racoon', wrecked in a snowstorm on the North coast of Ireland, 9 January 1918. All hands were lost.
