Order of the British Empire, 4th class (military)
Awarded to Engineer Commander Richard Edmund Cornforth Bolton (1872-1951), Royal Indian Marine. Silver gilt cross patonce, in the centre a medallion of Britannia surrounded by motto: 'FOR GOD AND THE EMPIRE'. Suspended from a purple ribbon with a central red stripe. Mounted on a bar with three medals and two medal ribbons.
'Gazette' 1 April 1919 'For valuable services in connection with the Naval transport of the East African Force'. 'As officer in charge of the Naval Dockyard [Dar es Salaam] has done good service in keeping all tugs, boats etc. in repair under very difficult conditions. Also in keeping and repairing transport vessels. This officer has rendered exceptionally good all-round service'.
