Prince Arthur, 1st Duke of Connaught and Strathearn (1850-1942) was appointed Governor General of Canada in October 1911. This photograph shows one of the staterooms on the 'Empress of Ireland' adapted to accommodate the Duke and Duchess of Connaught on their journey to Canada. The ship departed from Liverpool on 6 October 1911. The Royal apartments were decorated by A. Blain & Sons, Paradise Street, Liverpool.
