Portable transit telescope
This is a portable transit instrument similar, though simpler, in design to the transit instruments commissioned by the Royal Observatory for the transit of Venus expeditions of 1874. On the centre of the telescope is written 'A62' though it is unclear what this refers to. This telescope was part of the RGO collection presented to the NMM on the closure of the working observatory, RGO (Royal Greenwich Observatory) in 1998.
