1914-15 Star
Awarded to William John Boots (1888-1952). A uniface star of four points, the upper covered by a crown, with two crossed swords entwined by a short scroll. Inscription: '1914-15.'. An oak garland superimposed upon the whole. Inscription: 'G'. with a 'V' within it. Inscription Reverse: 'S.S.105077 W.J. BOOTS STO.I. R.N.' Ribbon missing.
William John Boots joined the Royal Navy on 21 May 1907 and was rated as a Stoker 1st Class. Between 1912 to 1914 he was transferred to the Royal Fleet Reserve. During World War I, he served in HMS 'Caesar' on the North America and West Indies Station. He was demobilised on 3 June 1921. In the '1939 England and Wales Register' he is shown still living in East Ham and employed as a lime mixer. He married Edith Maud Waite on 22 June 1920. He was the brother of George Henry Boots.
