1914-15 Star
Awarded to Stoker 1st class George Albert Victor Pellett (1891-1914). A uniface star of four points, the upper covered by a crown, with two crossed swords entwined by a short scroll. Inscription: "1914-15.". An oak garland superimposed upon the whole. Inscription: "G". with a "V" within it. Inscription Reverse: '10403, G.A.V. PELLETTT, STO.1,R.N.' Fitted with a ring and red, white and blue watered-silk ribbon. In original box of issue.
George Albert Victor Pellett was born in Bermondsey and entered the Royal Navy in 1911. He was lost in HMS 'Hogue' when she was sunk by U-9 with her sister ships 'Aboukir' and 'Cressy' on 22 September 1914. These elderly ships were part of the 7th cruiser squadron, sometimes unkindly refered to as the Live Bait Squadron.
