Victory Medal 1914-18
Awarded to Stoker 1st class George Albert Victor Pellett (1891-1914). Obverse: Winged Victory standing (front), a palm branch in her right hand, her left arm outstretched. Reverse: Within a laurel garland, Inscription: 'THE GREAT WAR FOR CIVILIZATION. 1914-1919'. Inscription on edge: 'K.10403 G.A.V. PELLETT. STO.1.R.N.' Fitted with a ring and watered silk ribbon of rainbow hues. In original box of issue with MED1640.
George Albert Victor Pellett was born in Bermondsey and entered the Royal Navy in 1911. He was lost in HMS 'Hogue' when she was sunk by U-9 with her sister ships 'Aboukir' and 'Cressy' on 22 September 1914. These elderly ships were part of the 7th cruiser squadron, sometimes unkindly refered to as the Live Bait Squadron.
